Mood Board

This mood board represents the type of music that would be featured inside of my magazine indie rock singer songwriter, the different things that I would like to see on my front cover and flowing through in to the magazine like the guitars natural colouring and the style of clothing and also includes some fonts that I am considering for the masthead and for inside the magazine.

Mojo Contents

I like this magazine for the way that it looks you have the red and white writing that stands out really well and is really easy to read against the simplistic back drop, I also like the image the whole backdrop and costume is pretty much one colour, which kind of reflects on the pose in the image he is laid back blending in. I like the effect that has been layered over the image to tone the colours down and makes it look a little bit old school, I also think that works well on the font in the way that the colour is still easy to read but the colour isnt bright and in your face it is dulled down once again I think reflecting on the image.

Billboard Contents

Once again a simple colour scheme has been stuck to (blue, black and white), out of all of the magazines that I have chosen this would be my least favourate I think that the colour scheme is quite boring, I do think that simple colour scheme works but for me this is just a bit short on the colour however I do like the way that this one is laid out, you have the charts laid out on the right hand side, not only does that provide a point of interest on the front cover it also reinforces the type of music and audience that they are targeting (big name chart music), I think that it also drags the attention away from of the rather colourless front cover, that is what I like most about this magazine the fact that they haven't just used this as a page to direct people to the right page they have included information about other things on the page.

It has several Images on it unlike most of the other contents pages, and I think this is because the cover chart music which can be very varied so they use multiple images to show the different artist and types of music represented inside the magazine so that they can draw in lots of different music fans.

XXL Contents

This magazine looks good because of the simple but rather clean cut look to the magazine. They have stuck with the traditional black white and red which reflects upon the raw side to the type of music that the artist inside that magazine produces, I think that this also shows the type of audience that XXL magazine appeals to, I think that it would be men from the ages of 18-24, they arent going to be interested in super flashy magazines, they will want it how it is and that would be represented with the type of music that they listen to. The composition on this page is quite clever if you look at the quote that is included with image, the image would also be the type of person that the target audience aspires to be rich, easy life partying so the imaging would make the magazine more appealing.

This is the preliminary float plan for my contents page of my school magazine called 321...GO.

Clash Cover

I think that this cover works well because of the fact that the colours allow the magazine to flow as they all suit each other well, it is a quite monotone cover nothing stands out at you, but when you look at the image on the front of the magazine you will see a rather reconisable face. That is what will sell this magazine Jay-Z is a massive star and is highly reconisable, so they think there cover needs no more and I dont think that is does.

I think that it works because it is so simple, they dont try to throw too much information at you, they use the colour gold to sybolise how big this is. That is why this magazine works, the close up of his head personifies this.

I think that this would be aimed at an audience aged between 18 and 28 this is because that is the kind of people that would listen to artists like Jay-Z, its not your ultra moderd pop rap like perhaps Tinie Tempah its more old school rap and would suit a slighly older audience, and I also believe that this would be aimed at males due to its colour and the style of music once again.

Mojo Cover

I like the cover to this magazine because of its interesting colour scheme, the odd looking sort of florescent green goes perfectly well with the grey scale imaging. the composition of the imaging at the top with the title of the magazine and the "KINGS OF LEON" text is all instantly drawn to your eyes. I also like the way that the photo has been composed, the fact the the lead singer has been edited to be in front of the other band members and the title of the magazine I think that it makes the magazine look professional.

As much as the top bit stands out the bottom bit kind of blends in to the magazine, you still have the green writing but it has been place on top of the whiter background so as it does not stand out as much, and alot of the other text is in an off white you can see it but only when you come to read it and I think they would have done this so that the "KINGS OF LEON" stands out even more as it is such a big story they will want people to notice that more than anything, as this is likely to attract alot of people to buy the magazine. This could also be said because of the red exclusive that is written above the "KINGS OF LEON" the colour stands out alot and you notice it which is what they want and the con notations of the word exculsive, is going to make people want it as they will think that they can't get it anywhere else.

I think that the target audience for this peice wouldn't be very specific as i believe the sort of rockeyish type of music, its the sort of music that has everything from middle aged men to older teenagers listening to it. I would say though that this magazine is prodimentaly aimed at men, the not dull but not, bright gairish colours of the magazine, it is controled and to me justs looks like it would be read by a male, it could also be to do with the fact that the type of music is more suited males and from my experience is listened to more by men.

Vibe Cover

I think that this is an good cover because of the simplicity of it you have a simple head and shoulder shot nothing special to it just all you need to see, this follows though with a one coloured background just with the shadow of Rihanna on the background, they colour of the image has even been removed and turned in to grey scale you can't see the effects of her shinny jewelry or the make up that she is wearing. The layout of the magazine minimelistic just the title image little list of artist featured and the sub heading.
I think that this magazine would appeal to a female audience, the bright vibrant colours, and the fact that she is still wearing the jewelry and is still quite clearly wearing make up, when you compare this to a magazine with a similar magazine layout that is aimed at men (Clash magazine cover) there is none of this it literaly is just a shot of his face and the fact that the little details have been included in this magazine, would appeal to females who are more fashion conscious aware.
